He Is A Winner

He Is lived up to expectations yesterday, winning easily over 1200m at Echuca. His trainer Mark Kavanagh has always had a high opinion of the three-year-old colt and looks forward to racing him over more distance.

“I’ve been telling all his owners he is not a bad horse and considering he is by Pierro and going to be a 2000m horse, it’s a pretty good start,” said Mark.

“The fence was not really the place to be, however, he was able to overcome that to race against the pattern of the day and really knuckle down in the final stages.”

“It was a great ride from Craig to take the gap and steer him up the inside rail.”

His jockey Craig Robertson was equally pleased with his performance and told the owners that there is still a lot of upside.

“It was a good effort by He Is today, he stepped really nice and travelled nice throughout the race. He came right up underneath me getting towards the corner, we just needed to work out which way we were going to go. The leader rolled, so I asked him to quicken and he quickened down really good and took the gap on the inside,” said Craig.

“As the other horses started to come to me I got tougher on him and he got tougher, he ran through the line really well, it was a nice win. He still has a lot to learn, so there is still a lot of upside there.”

As to what’s next, Mark will see how he pulls up and go from there. It’s no secret that the ladies in the horse are planning their Derby Day outfits, so let’s hope he keeps winning and gains a start in the main race on the best day of racing this country offers.

He Is will also go down in history as Jewel Racing’s first winner (and of course first horse and first runner). To find out more about Jewel Racing and other horses available click here.
